About the Brand
Founded in 1917, Nikon has come a long way, and now manufactures a wide range of equipment related to photography, such as Consumer and Professional digital cameras, Compact Cameras, Lenses, NIKKOR optics, and Accessories. It is among the leading brands in digital imaging, precision optics and photo imaging technology. Nikon has also partnered with various U.S. space programs for their moon and other space projects.
A little known fact about this group is that it’s one of the companies under the Mitsubishi Group of companies.
Right from the beginning, they were known for their better image quality. During world war II, the company had nineteen factories employing around 25,000 workers who were involved in making equipment for the military, such as binoculars, lenses, bomb sights, and periscopes.
It was in the years 1948 that Nikon released their first Nikon branded camera, which was known as the ‘Nikon I’. Later, they introduced the F-series SLRs in 1959, and for nearly 30 years, the F-series SLRs were the most widely used small-format cameras among professional photographers.
Competition
When it comes to SLR cameras, especially for beginners, most of the time it comes down to a Nikon vs Canon. These are the two brands that serious photographers prefer.
Here’s a nice video that shows what photographers think about Nikon vs Canon.
Today, Nikon has a wide range of DSLR cameras including full frame, semi professional and entry level models. Recently, Nikon also introduced an image and video editing suite called ‘ViewNX’ which can be used for browsing, editing, merging and sharing images and videos.
Nikon also has great range of ‘point and shoot’ cameras (they are quite popular as well) sold under the ‘Coolpix’ brand. Lately, Nikon has also introduced some top-quality waterproof/underwater cameras.
Nikon D3300 Digital Camera Review

Be it a holiday, festivals or some family moments, you can capture and store all these precious moments with a Nikon D3300. This camera is perfect for someone looking for a DSLR experience and is a beginner. It has many features and also allows you some control in settings. Overall, this is a great product if you are looking for sharp quality images, great features and ease of use.
The Nikon D3300 SLR camera, which is being marketed as a beginner’s SLR camera, is actually quite good in terms of performance and considering its price, and can be used for most kinds of photography. It has a good resolution and affordable pricing, though the body is a bit smaller. Overall, its a great beginner SLR camera.
The Nikon D3300 Digital SRL camera features 24.2MP CMOS, Auto focus-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Zoom Lens.
Pros
ca
Affordable, good resolution, easy-to-use, great for still photos, good low-light performance
Cons
Video files limited to 20 min
Review
The D3300 is definitely a great beginner SLR camera, but can also be used by the experienced photographers as their second/backup camera. Its lightweight and the features are good, practical, and comprehensive; the HD video with slow motion is incredible.
Pros may find it to be less flexible, but with the proper lenses & techniques, the results can be stunning. However, because its lightweight and smaller in size, it can get tricky to hold it, especially when you attach a much bigger lens to it.
Besides, just do a price comparison between this one and the D800. Are you not getting it at almost one-fourth of the price, and that too with a decent kit lens?
The LCD screen is much better and lets you effortlessly pre-screen the shots that you have taken. Even for professional work, there’s no need to check each of the images on the computer screen after every shot.
It has a comparatively slow focus and shutter response, even the AF could be faster but it’s pretty fast enough for most situations. And the D3300 does come with many advanced features.
A big surprise is the great high resolution pictures that it takes; you can use them straight out of the box. It comes with a great auto-focus system despite having only about 11 sensors.
Beginners may find the set up procedures a bit complicated initially, but its more of a learning curve as with most good products.

The Nikon D3300 is particularly good for landscape photography or for portraits and for shooting product portfolios. You may find it a bit slower in lower light, but its still not bad considering the price. Overall, the Nikon D3300 is a great, practical, beginner SLR camera.
Nikon D7000 Review
The Nikon D7000 Camera, though easy to use, has everything that you need to capture great photos, with very low noise levels.
Pros: More focus points, Faster continuous shooting, Faster shutter speed, longer lasting batteries
Cons: Bulky & heavier, No swivel screen
Review
The Nikon D7000 is an excellent camera that gives you an ideal view in a rugged build. You have the option of choosing one with a lens or without it.
With this camera, you get more focus points, so you can stay focussed on what matters most.
The D5100 shoots at four frames per second, but the D7000 shoots at six frames per second so it allows faster continuous shooting, perfect for shooting sports or any fast moving subject.
When it comes to storage space, photographers would ideally want unlimited storage options. Though that may not be possible, in this model you get Two memory card slots, which means you can have more storage space.
The fastest shutter speed on the D5100 is 1/4000th of a second; whereas on the D7000 its 1/8000th of a second. However, its unlikely that you’d need to use that speed, unless probably you intend to shoot directly into the sun.
The 60% longer lasting batteries are definitely useful.

Overall, a great camera that captures stunning image details under any illumination. Though the D3100 and D5100 are less expensive and less weight, this one is a much better camera. If you want a great camera, it makes sense to spend few more dollars and go for the Nikon D7000 camera.
Nikon D800 Digital SLR Camera
A clear improvement over the D700, the Nikon D800 Digital SLR Camera is more of a broadcast quality video camera as well, capable of shooting excellent still pictures as well as videos. It has a high ISO performance and a fast, responsive shutter speed.
- Pros: Fast auto-focus, Large LCD, High ISO performance, Responsive shutter speed
- Cons: Heavier, no backlit buttons, shorter battery life, expensive Battery pack

Slight increase in sharpness and resolution with increased occurrence of false color and moire

The ISO performance is not as good as the D4, but for studio work, this is the best camera you can buy right now. Wish it had built-in wifi, wish the grip wasn’t almost 500 bucks. The size is unbelievably small for what it is, which makes it a great camera for “walking around” too. When posed with the choice of which you should get – D4 or D800 – consider what you will use it for. If you don’t need 11 frames per second or to be able to take pictures in near-darkness, buy the D800. If you find that you crop your photos a lot, get a D800. Keep in mind that you will need to buy very large memory cards for this thing. Spring for a set of 64GB cards right away.
